Lika Destinaton is again on the list of TOP 100 green sustainable destinations in the world

For the seventh year, the international foundation Global Green Destination has been gathering the world's sustainable green destinations and collecting stories of sustainable tourism and good practices from destinations around the world, which are shared as inspiring examples for others, from tourism professionals to travelers. By telling their stories, destination management organizations can be recognized for the solutions they have implemented in response to the challenges and problems they have faced. Given that the tourism sector has been facing very challenging times in recent years, the resilience and hard work of destinations to become more responsible should be celebrated.

The Lika destination is special in many ways. In an area where almost 60% of the surface is protected, there are 8 protected natural areas, of which 3 are national parks. A large share of pure nature allows the growth and cultivation of quality food, which was recognized by the Lika Destination Cluster a few years ago when the cluster was founded. The only tourism cluster in Lika was established with the aim of promoting the Lika destination on the domestic and international market for tourism based on its natural, cultural, historical, gastronomic and health features according to the principles of sustainable development under the slogan "Smart sustainable destination".

They received recognition for their dedicated work at the end of last year, when the destination of Lika was included in the list of TOP 100 world green sustainable destinations for the first time. Thanks to persistence and continued quality work, the international foundation Global Green Destination, which gathers the world's sustainable tourist destinations, yesterday presented the list of sustainable TOP 100 global destinations in the world (Global TOP 100 Sustainable Destination) for 2021, which once again includes the Lika Destination!

Applications were evaluated by the Sustainable Top 100 team, state experts and Green Destination partners, as well as members of the Green Destination Foundation. The Lika Destination Cluster says, "In order to submit an application this year, we had to meet 30 criteria, which is twice as many as last year. In addition to the criteria, we also had to submit a story of good practice, which this year we focused on local products with the Lika Quality label because we believe that connecting local producers with the rest of the tourism stakeholders, which we have been working on in the cluster since day one, is one of the main factors of development in Lika. Considering that thanks to our story of good practice, we have been included in the TOP 100 list again, we conclude that the same is true of world experts in the field of tourism and sustainable development, who singled out the Lika Quality system as a unique and successful example that everyone should follow, which we are extremely proud of."

The list of the top 100 in 2021 will be available on the Green Destinations website, and this recognition once again confirmed that the Lika Destination Cluster is successfully achieving its goals and promoting the destination in the right direction and in line with all global trends.
